DAY SCHOOL: HOW TO APPLY

Thank you for your interest in Queen's College. Our admission process is designed with one objective: it allows both you and our committee to determine whether Queen's College is the best choice for your child. The normal requirement for admission at the College is 3.2 GPA, or at least a 65% average in courses.

We continuously seek students of good character, strong community involvement and academic achievement to take advantage of their opportunities and encourage them to excel in their respected talents and interests.

Getting accepted to Queen's College is dependant upon several factors. Academic readiness and accomplishment are very important but do not exclusively determine acceptance at Queen's. The Queen's College Admission's Committee (QCAC) also considers community service, extra-curricular activities, motivation and the candidate's all round performance as an individual.

Applying to Queen's College is a four step process:

1. Application and Required Documents

All candidates are asked to complete and return all required documents and information no later than December 21, 2007 .

  • Application for Admission
  • Application fee ($500 CDN for secondary students)
  • Report Cards (from the two most recent schools)
  • Two Teacher Recommendation Forms
  • Birth Verification Document (Copies of Birth Certificate of Passport)
  • Recent photo of Candidate (For identification only, will not be returned)

At this time, we ask that parents/guardians send copies of reports cards as soon as they become available. If this cannot be sent in time due to end of year report cards, please fill out Teacher Recommendation Form.

2. Teacher Recommendation and Writing Sample

Candidates are required to submit Mathematics and English Teaching Evaluations completed and returned as soon as possible and no later that mid-February. These forms should be filled out by teacher and mailed directly to us. This information will be held in strict confidence.
Candidates are asked to submit a recent English writing sample (e.g.book report, history assignment or English test). Please submit a copy of original work because copy sent will not be returned. All files will be reviewed upon receipt of all required documents.

3. Entrance Test

As part of the admissions process, all candidates are required to write the QCAT ( Queens 's College Admission Test). This test determines students' ability, level and areas that may need improvement or concentration. The test also determines student's scholarship amount. (Please see Scholarship for more information).
Candidates and parents/guardians are reminded that the test results represent only one of the many factors that are considered in the admissions process. Admission selection cannot be made without test results and candidates strongly encouraged to register and write the QCAT as early as possible, and no later than February 26, 2007 . (Please note that in special circumstances, the QCAT can be written upon arriving into Canada for International students.)

4. Interview

Candidates whom the QCAC (Queen's College Admission Committee) believe that will benefit form and contribute to the College's philosophy will be invited for an interview. The interview will be conducted with the Principal and one member of QCAC. The interview usually takes about one hour, focusing on a tour and conversations with parents/guardians and student. In order to know the candidate and his/her family Queen's makes every effort in providing a warm, friendly and relaxed environment where information can be exchanged more effectively. The Admission's Office will contact candidate at the best available time to schedule an appointment.
Admission decisions will be mailed on March 16, 2007 . If you request information about your child's results, please contact the Admission's Office regarding admission decision. We look forward to meeting you!
